Cinemagraphs are a unique way of mixing stills imagery with moving video animation to create eye catching 'living' images. They can be used and embedded in to all types of websites and social media.

Cinemagraphs were originally generated as animated GIFs but this image file format has numerous limitations. Firstly animated GIFs have a colour palette limited to just 256 web colours and secondly, the media file sizes tend to be very large, making high quality, full screen imagery impractical. However, new web technologies have recently developed, enabling all of these problems to disappear. The lowly animated GIF has now largely been superceeded by highly compressed auto play / auto loop MP4 video files.

Here are some examples of full width cinemagraphs - they can also be limited in frame size for smaller display images and filler shots.
